Kavala Cookie

Everybody loves cookies !! Every country has own particular type of cookie. I want to write about one of the most famous cookie in Greece. It is made in Kavala city. Kavala is the second largest city in northern Greece. As you can understand from the location this city is definitely close to Turkey and my hometown Edirne. This geographical affinity is causing very mix culture between Greece and Turkey. Even the pronunciation of “cookie” is very similar for both Turkish and Greek languages. Greeks are calling it as “Kourabiedes” and Turks are calling it as “Kurabiye”.

In addition you can find this special cookie type even in my hometown. Some manufacturers are producing Kavala Cookies even in Turkey. Nevertheless, I believe that you can taste the best food at the place that the food is originally coming from. For this reason, if you are visiting Kavala, you should taste the delicious cookies and enjoy the seaside !

The ingredients of Kavala Cookie basicly are flour, almond, butter and sugar. Using almond is one of the significant characteristic of this cookie. The Kavala Cookie with high quality is baked in natural ovens, does not contain any conservatives. It is very traditional dessert in Greece.
