Italian Foods (1)

As my followers know, I have been living in Italy for 1 and half year and I am studying food engineering. So finally I’ve decided to post a new entry about “Italy” and “Food”. Actually I’ve been thinking of preparing a new article about this subject for a while, however I had been waiting in order to have a sufficient knowledge about this phenomena. So, today is the day !! In order to give information and share my expressions in depth, I keep on writing about “Italy and Food” for the next blog entries.
As you can easily guess, Italian cuisine is not consisting of “pizza” and “pasta”! I accept that these are very famous, however other tasty kinds exist. For getting the idea about the variety of Italian foods, you should visit every region in Italy and obviously you will realize that, every region has some particular type of foods.
For instances, I want to give some examples of cities and their typical foods and beverages.

Parma - Various kinds of hams, especially; "prosciutto".

prosciutto crudo in Toscana

Napoli - Pizza Margherita

pizza margherita - Antica Pizzeria Brandi

Typical Italian pizza does not look like "American pizza". The dough at the lower part is very thin. In 1889 the Pizza Margherita is invented upon the request of Queen Margherita. The Margherita pizza, whose red tomatoes, green basil, and white cheese represent the Italian flag, was named after her.

Toscana - Wine
wine seller in Florance

Piatto antipasto - Typical Italian "starter"
 "Classical Italian starter" in Florance

to be continued...

As we used to eat thick pizza and full of many products in it, Italian pizza is very different. I think Italian pizza is for tasting and enjoying the taste. That must be the idea for eating Italian pizza, not filling the stomach :) I could not have a chance to eat Italian Lasagna and i'm waiting for article about it!!!

Yes, I think so; Italians generally prefer eating less than us, maybe for this reason they are much thinner. Thank you for your contribution, I will write about also Italian Lasagna !
