Turkish Cuisine in Berlin

Hi all ! I'm with you with a new entry. This entry will be about the Turkish cuisine. However it's not about the Turkish foods from Turkey. I'll talk about the amazing Turkish foods that you can come across in Berlin. As you remember, my last entry was about the tasty beers of Berlin and today it's time to talk about the Turkish foods and drinks. I've experienced really wonderful tastes in Berlin. I'm looking forward to share with you these tastes.

Turkish Lahmacun. Some people call it also like "Turkish pizza". Yes, it's true that it's very similar to pizza in terms of the taste and the shape. However it's quite different from the pizza due to the ingredients that are used for the toppings. I've been in Italy for 2 years, and until now I' haven't tasted a pizza like "lahmacun".

Lahmacun was really delicious and it wasn't very expensive. 3 Lahmacun costs just 6 €. I've noticed that not only Turkish people, but also Germans prefer going to Turkish restaurant for enjoying a nice meal. While we were in the restaurant, there were also lots of German people there and everybody was very pleased. Besides the delicious foods, the service was really nice, and the atmosphere was quite good. The restaurant also offers a good "drink menu". If you want you can drink also "Raki" which is one of the most popular Turkish alcoholic beverages". Instead of drinking Rakı, we preferred to have "Ayran".

TIP: Ayran is a cold beverage of yogurt mixed with cold water and sometimes salt; it is popular in many Central AsianMiddle Eastern and South-eastern European countries. Turkey is the biggest producer of ayran in the world, International fast-food companies in Turkey, such as McDonald's and Burger King, include ayran on their menu.

We went to a Turkish restaurant which is located in Kreuzberg zone.  Kreuzberg is known for its very large percentage of immigrants and second-generation immigrants, many of whom are of Turkish ancestry.

Kreuzberg is the name of the district where most of the Turkish immigrants live. This is such a Turkish zone that it's an usual fact to see Turkish signboards.
Mainly, I can say that, there are two different types of cuisine in Berlin. First of all, the places where you can taste typical German foods and secondly, there are numerous restaurants or street vendors that you can taste different cuisines in Berlin. Especially due to the high population of Turkish people, there are lots of places that you can eat some typical Turkish foods. Some of these places are really nice restaurants which have good, typical atmosphere, and also there are some small places or street vendors which they sell some typical Turkish foods such as "döner", "kebap", "lahmacun".

Even if the main types are "kebap" and "lahmacun" it's possible to find a typical turkish fish restaurant Berlin. It was really a big surprise for me. The name of the place is "Karadeniz Balıkçısı" which means "Blacksea Fish Seller".
Actually, during my visit in Berlin, I both went to the Turkish restaurant, and took "döner" from street vendors. I can say that, all types of Turkish foods that I tasted, were very tasty. I've confess that I wasn't expecting this. I was thinking that Turkish foods can be eaten only in Turkey typically, but I was wrong. All Turkish foods were amazing.

This place sells "Döner" and "Kebap" to the clients who want to have their meal on foot. We also took "Döner Sandwich" just paying 3 € and we enjoyed it!

Mercimek Corbası - Lentil soup. It's one of the most tasty and typical Turkish soups. It was really tasty and thanks to this soup, I felt myself like in Turkey.
