“Vecchia Salerno”

Today, this entry will be about one of my favorite restaurants in Salerno. The name of the place is “Vecchia Salerno” which means "Old Salerno". Because of probably its location situated in old center of the city, they give this name; “Old Salerno”. Luckily here in Salerno, respect to all other cities located on the North part of Italy, the prices is incredibly low. I like this very much, I love South Italy and its culture. Of course, if we are talking about the cuisine of the South Italy, there are numerous different types of different foods typically made in South. From the pizza (originally Neapolitan) to pasta, from “mozzarella di buffalo”, to “arancini” you can come across different tastes, during your trip to South Italy. Thanks to fountains on the streets, and low prices of the foods, you can maintain yourself with a low amount of money. 

 Particular Italian Vine & Pizza

So let’s turn back to our main subject. Here in Salerno, there are lots of restaurants; however I don’t know why I like this “Vecchia Salerno” pretty much than the others. Maybe the reason can be the friendly atmosphere of the restaurant and the most delicious pizzas in Salerno. I went there lots of times, with my friends. The pizzas aren’t heavy and they’re easy to digest. 

 I am looking forward to eat my pizza. My favorite pizza in Vecchia Salerno:“Pugliese” The taste of the dough is incredible. Pugliese consists of onion, tomato sauce and mozerella. It is so delicious!

In the restaurant, besides the tasty pizza types, you can order some main courses. There are lots of different types of vines and desserts as well. If you are tourist and you come to visit Salerno, as vine, in order to feel the South atmosphere, you should prefer to have the famous vines of Avellino. Avellino is a city quite close to Salerno and the vine of Avellino is quite famous; even they are exporting their vines to United States. 

 When my sister came to visit us from Turkey, without any thinking, I brought her with my girlfriend to Vecchia Salerno. We had a great dinner together! 

In "Vecchia Salerno"  without exaggerating ingredients are used sufficiently and "the beginners" are also very delicious. You can order one beginner like including the type of different cheeses or hams. The menu sometimes can be changeable, however the main types of pizzas can be found every day. But don’t forget that like all other restaurants, on the Sundays, it is very difficult to find this restaurant open. Also if I am not wrong, it should be close also on Mondays evening. 

 

 Its location is very central, however it can be a little bit complicated to find the restaurant due to the narrow streets in the old center. Neverthless, you can find it thanks to this illustration.

To sum up, if you want to visit Salerno, the very first thing that you should do is visiting “Centro Storico” Historical City Center. And while you are strolling on the narrow streets, you can go to Vecchia Salerno and in a friendly atmosphere you can have your dinner or lunch there.
